We began our study of early American history by learning about some of the earliest American explorers like Leif the Lucky and Christopher Columbus. The D’Aulaire’s have beautiful biographical picture books for both of these historical figures. The book Encounter helped us to see these early discoveries from the perspective of a Native American boy, while The Light and the Glory was brutally honest about both the good and the bad intentions of the men involved.
